The commandery Longomoso

Before emperors and pilgrims, soldiers and merchants had to take the strenuous detour via the Renon. That is why there existed a hospice in Longomoso already before 1200. This hospice passed into the ownership of the German Knightly Order together with the parish in the year 1235. Plundered and destroyed in the peasant revolts of 1525, the commandery was reconstructed in baroque style and was supplied with pompously furnished rooms which served high dignitaries as place of residence. Nowadays these rooms can be visited.

The curatorship commandery Longomoso takes charge of the restoration and the cultural utilization of the whole mighty building complex in collaboration with the Teutonic Order since 1987. From May to October there are hosted concerts, exhibitions, symposia, lectures etc. in the spacious rooms on the second floor. Since 1973 the commandery is also venue for the "Rittner Sommerspiele" - the well-known open-air performances taking place each summer between the end of July and mid August.
